This contribution examines the human rights implications of encryption backdoors, focusing on the landmark Podchasov v. Russia case. It analyzes the tension between national security and privacy rights in the digital age, highlighting key international instruments on encryption’s role in protecting human rights. It concludes by advocating for a balanced approach that respects both security needs and fundamental rights in our increasingly interconnected world.
